Bayern Munich will be desperate for all three points in order to further close the gap on league leaders RB Leipzig. However two defeats from eight home league games this campaign (W5, D1, L2) is already double the number they registered at home last season, although four of their five victories here have been obtained despite a -3 handicap.
Expect more goals considering every Bundesliga match involving Bayern bar one has produced over 2.5 goals this term, and five of their eight at home have witnessed over 3.5. However Bayern have scored the opener in just four of their eight home games (W3, D1 when doing so), although they do come alive in the second half where they’ve netted 65.38% of their home league goals.
Wolfsburg’s 1-0 defeat in their last Bundesliga away match was significant in that it was their fourth competitive road trip in a row where just one team scored, and their third consecutive away game which featured under 2.5 goals. In fact Wolfsburg’s top-flight away matches have averaged a league-low 2.0 total goals per fixture.
Whilst the visitors have netted the opener in three away games this league campaign, winning each time, they are yet to score in the 15 minutes either side of half-time on the road.
Players to watch: Robert Lewandowski netted in midweek – he scored in both halves in Bayern’s last two Bundesliga home victories.
Wout Weghorst has been Wolfsburg’s first goalscorer in the four away league games he’s found the net this season.
Stat attack: The opener has been scored by the 25th minute in Bayern’s last four competitive home fixtures.
Bayern have never lost at home to Wolfsburg (W24, D2), and have netted an average of 2.92 goals per game.
Wolfsburg are yet to trail at half-time on the road this season (HT: W3, D4).
