Borussia Dortmund v FC Schalke 04 – Bundesliga Match Preview, Kick-Off Time & Match Prediction

Finally, after weeks of temporary suspension of the Bundesliga and a nationwide lock-down due to the Corona Virus (COVID-19) pandemic in Europe, the league will return this weekend with several games lined up for this Saturday.

FC Schalke 04 will be coming off a 1-1 draw against Hoffenheim in their previous match and will kick-off their first football appearance in weeks against Dortmund. The club-side will be looking to get back to winning ways as they haven’t won a single game in six appearances; DDDLLD. But they are not doing too badly at the moment. They sit 6th on the Bundesliga table and are on the way to qualification for European competition after 9W, 10D and 6L. They have earned 37 points from 25 Bundesliga appearances and boast of an average of 1.3 goals per game. It’s very likely we will see the visiting team scoring at least one goal in this encounter. We can expect a 4-1-4-1 formation from David Wagner, coach of Wolfsburg. Attacking midfielder, Amine Harit who has 6 goals will be looking to extend his tally when he faces Dortmund on Saturday.

Meanwhile, home team Dortmund are 2nd on the league table – just four points behind league leaders, Bayern Munich. They have lost only once in their last six league games; WLWWWW. Dortmund has 15W, 6D and 4L in 25 league appearances and have scored an impressive 68 goals this season. Coach Lucien Favre will play his usual 3-4-2-1 formation against Schalke with Haaland (9 goals, 1 assist) at the top of the attacking trio. Jodan Sancho who has an impressive 14 goals and 15 league assists will be another source of problem for Schalke’s defense. Both strikers are enjoying their best form of the season.

The last time both sides met was in October, 2019. That match ended in a draw; 0-0. Previously, they met on the 27th of April 2019 and Schalke 04 won 4-2.

Except for long term injuries, both sides have had weeks to rest and should have no major injury or fitness worries.

A 3-1 victory for Dortmund is predicted when both sides lock horns on Saturday.
