Union Berlin v Bayern Munich – Match Preview, Kick-Off Time and Match Prediction

Finally, after weeks of enforced country wide lock-down due to the Corona Virus (COVID-19) pandemic in Europe, the Bundesliga returns this weekend.

Bayern Munich will be playing their 26th league match of this season. After four straight victories, Bayern are yet to lose any match in their last six Bundesliga matches; WDWWWW. They have racked up an impressive 55 points and remain at the top of the league table after scoring 73 goals this season. Conceding only 26 goals – they are the lowest conceding side in the league along with 3rd placed, RB Leipzig. Bayern has 17W, 4D and 4L after 25 league appearances this season. With the return of Lewandoski, coach, Hans-Dieter Flick will likely revert to his 4-2-3-1 formation. Lewa, as he is fondly called has scored an impressive 25 goals this season and has 3 assists to his name.

Meanwhile, Union Berlin — also playing their 26th league appearance of the season are 11th on the league table with 30 points. They have been inconsistent in their last six Bundesliga matches; LWLWDL. Berlin has scored 32 times and conceded 41 goals which has handed them 9W, 3D, and 13L. Berlin’s most promising player, Sebastian Andersson would be looking to add to his 11-goal tally. Coach, Urs Fischer of Union Berlin will field his favorite 3-4-2-1 formation once again with star player, Andersson leading the attack.

The first leg saw Bayern Munich win 2-1 with goals coming from Banjamin Pavard (13’) and Robert Lewandowski (53’). Sebastian Polter (86’) of Union Berlin grabbed a consolation goal few minutes to the end of the normal playing time. Previously, they met in August, 2019 and Bayern again won that match 3-1.

Union Berlin might be in poor form but have been able to score at least one goal against Bayern Munich in their last two meetings. It is likely they will score a goal on Sunday. Meanwhile, the return of Robert Lewandowski will be a huge boost for Bayern Munich in front of goal and Gnabry might be relegated to the bench despite doing so well in Lewa’s absence.

Both teams have had a long rest so concerns for fatigue and fitness are of little concerns.

A 2-1 victory for Bayern Munich is predicted at the end of the game.
