Manchester City vs Port Vale – FA Cup Preview
After back-to-back fixtures in the Premier League, Manchester City will return to football action against League 2 side, Port Vale. Scheduled for this Saturday, it will be the first FA Cup match in the New Year.
Pep will use this opportunity to see that the younger players in the squad get some minutes on the field. More so, to give his first team players some needed rest. Phil Foden will likely start while David Silva could make his first start in nearly a month after returning from injury. In defense we expect to see Zinchenko – Garcia – Harwood Bellis – Joa Cancelo. Pep will like to have a healthy mix of youthfulness and experience against Port Vale so in midfield we expect Foden – Gundogan – Silva while in attack: Angelino – G. Jesus – Mahrez . Despite the unfamiliar faces, Pep will stick to his familiar 4-3-3 formation.
Meanwhile, Port Vale’s coach, John Askey will line up his side in a 4-3-3 formation. The trio of Pope-Amoo – Worrall will lead their attack while goal keeper, Brown will be in between the sticks and protected by a defense of Montano – Legge – Smith- Gibbons. In the midfield we expect to see Taylor – Joyce – Burgess. Jake Taylor who is Port’s highest goal scorer with 5 goals in League 2 remains Port Vale’s most ‘dangerous’ player. Port Vale are unbeaten in their last six matches with 5 Draws and 1 Win (W1, D5). They have made two appearances in the FA Cup this season and have scored 4 goals. Meanwhile, Manchester City have won all their last 6 FA Cup matches and have scored more than 2.5 goals in their last five matches.
This is the first meeting between the two sides in 21 years. The last match ended 2-1 in favor of City. Manny Oyeleke and Adam Crookes remain sidelined with injuries for Port Vale. For City, Goal keeper Ederson remains doubtful and we will see Bravo in goal. We predict a high margin victory for City against inexperienced Port Vale with G. Jesus or Mahrez getting on the scoresheet.
