Real Madrid vs Eibar – La Liga Match Preview, Kick-Off Time & Match Prediction
Match Day 28 continues with Real Madrid taking on Eibar on Sunday the 14th of June, 2020 at Estadio Alfredo Di Stéfano.
What a weird sight it will be, seeing Real Madrid play as hosts NOT at Santiago Bernabéu… This will be their 28th league match of the season. Back in March, in their last game before the break, they lost 2-1 at Real Betis, a costly defeat, as it allowed Barcelona to leapfrog them at the top of the table. Their form before the break read; LWLLD. Real Madrid have 16W, 8D and 3L in 27 league appearances. No other La Liga team have lost less games than them this season. They have scored 49 goals and conceded 19, leaving them with a +30GD. No team have allowed their opponents less goals than Real Madrid. Coach Zinedine Zidane went for a 4-1-4-1 in that 2-1 defeat at Betis back in March. Karim Benzema had been having a productive season until the break, scoring 14 goals in 26 appearances.
Eibar’s last match was a 1-2 home defeat to Real Sociedad, something over three months ago. Their form before the break read; LLWLL. They are 16th on the table, on 27 points, paying for the four defeats in their last five matches, plus, their inability to win more than one from their last seven. They have 7W, 6D and 14L in 27 matches. Eibar have scored 27 goals and conceded 41, leaving them with a -14GD. Coach José Luis Mendilibar (in charge for almost four years now) opted for a 4-2-3-1 formation in their last La Liga match. Argentinian central midfielder Gonzalo Escalante has to sit out due to cards. He has appeared in 20 La Liga games this season, being usually a starter in Mendilibar’s line-up.
Back in November, Real Madrid beat Eibar 0-4 away from home. Last season, when the Merengues hosted their modest rivals, they struggled to beat them 2-1, having to come from behind, with Benzema scoring twice in the second half, including that 81st-minute winner.
It’s hard to imagine the hosts not winning this game, despite the fact that they haven’t played a competitive game in three months.
A 2-0 victory for Real Madrid is predicted at full-time.
