Brighton vs Chelsea

Brighton recorded their first win in five matches; DDLLW with a 2-0 win over Bournemouth on Saturday. Sitting 14th place, a back-to-back win could edge them closer to a top-ten spot. The Seagulls will welcome Frank Lampard’s side to the Amex stadium where both teams will lock horns and battle it out in the first premier league match of the year 2020.

In their last match, Brighton took the lead within the opening three minutes following a slick counter attacking move. Neal Maupay linked up Alireza Jahanbakhsh who fired the ball into the bottom corner of the opposition’s side for his first goal in Brighton colors.

Dan Burn thought he had doubled Brighton’s advantage in the second half, connecting the ball on a half volley to bury it into the bottom corner of the opposition’s goal but VAR deemed it as offside. The victory was eventually sealed by Aaron Mooy, who controlled the ball exquisitely with the outside of his right foot, before bending the ball past the outstretched arm of Aaron Ramsdale. This brilliant performance will leave The Seagulls full of confidence when they take on Chelsea on Jan 1, 2020.

Brighton has scored an average of 1.2 goals per match racking up 24 goals in 20 premier league appearances. They recorded an average of 54.2% ball possession and boast of 12.6 shots per game.

However, their defense has let in 28 goals – 4 more than they have score this season. Graham Potter’s side have moved 5 points clear of the bottom three. According to the statistics, at home the club have won just 40% of their games.

Chelsea have shown poor form; LWLLW lately but they won two significant games in recent weeks. Beating two London rivals, Tottenham and Arsenal to remain 4th place. Chelsea produced a stunning late comeback to beat Arsenal 2-1 in a premier league encounter on Sunday. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang gave Arsenal the lead in the 13th minute. It looked like another defeat for Chelsea until Jorghino scored in the 83rd minute, thanks to some unconventional goal keeping from Arsenal’s goalkeeper. Tammy Abraham doubled the lead 4 minutes later in the 87th minute to hand Chelsea a win after two straight losses.

In 20 premier league matches, “The Blues” scored 35 goals. That’s an average of 1.8 goals per game. They have 11W, 2D and 7L recording 57.5% average ball possession. They let in 28 goals in total and have a goal difference of +7. Chelsea are having clear problems at home but on the road, they have been getting the job done.

The last match between the two ended 2-0 in Chelsea’s favor and Chelsea won all nine of their last league meetings against Brighton so this should be an easy win for “The Blues”.
