It’s the beginning of a new era for Everton as manager Carlo Ancelotti takes charge for his first game. He walks into a side undefeated in four competitive matches within 90 mins (W1, D3) and coming fresh from their first clean sheet after going eight competitive fixtures without. Notably, though, Everton’s five competitive games prior to their goalless draw with Arsenal last weekend saw both teams score.
Ancelotti will know that the hosts’ defence must improve as their average of 1.61 goals conceded per Premier League (PL) match is the division’s joint-fifth highest average. Everton are most vulnerable after the 75th minute, where they have conceded 31.03% of those PL goals.
Visitors Burnley travel to Goodison Park after winning their previous two PL matches. They kept a clean sheet in both, which tends to be the deciding component in their league wins as each of their seven clean sheets this season has been accompanied by a victory.
The ‘Clarets’ don’t usually enjoy their travels to the blue half of Merseyside, after losing four of their previous five PL matches here (W1, L4). They failed to score over 1.5 goals in all of those games, and conceded 2+ goals in three of those fixtures.
Players to watch: Dominic Calvert-Lewin has scored in four separate PL games this term, with each game seeing over 3.5 goals and both teams score.
Forward Chris Wood has three goals in his previous seven Burnley appearances – two of those efforts came during the 46th to 60th minute period.
Stat attack: Everton have scored 13 of their 20 PL goals during the first half.
Everton have been losing at half-time in just one of their nine PL home games.
Burnley have scored 16 of their 23 PL goals in the second half.
