Manchester City vs Everton

Manchester city will be facing Everton for their first premiere league match of the new year after a 2-0 win against Sheffield away from home.

Pep’s side had goals from Sergio Aguero 52’and Kevin De Bruyne 82’ to beat a resilient Sheffield United side. The game was riddled with controversial officiating moments – one of which saw a Sheffield goal cancelled on grounds of an earlier foul to Sergio Aguero. Then another when a Sheffield player was impeded by the referee leading to a goal for Manchester City. ‘The Blades’ were furious with the ref’s decision not to stop play and award dead ball. This time around Pep Guardiola who has been a vocal critique of VAR didn’t have much to say about the technology. City are 3rd on the league table with just a point behind Leicester City thanks to a recent form of 3W and 1L; WWLW. Aguero who recently returned to making a full debut after a long injury will feature once more in Pep’s 4-3-3. The lethal trio of Mahrez on the right, Aguero in center forward flanked on the left by Raheem Sterling will be looking out to score more goals for City. City has scored 54 goals in 20 premiere league appearances – the highest in the league. With 41 points they have a GD of +31 after 13W, 2D and 5L.

Meanwhile Everton returns with a victory from their last game against Newcastle. They beat Newcastle by two goals thanks to a brace from Dominic Calvert-Lewin (13’, 64’). This season they beat Chelsea 3-1, pulled a draw with Manchester United (1-1), Leicester City (2-2) and Arsenal (0-0). A very good record against stronger teams on paper. Looking at this record, it appears Manchester City might have a game in their hands. Everton sit 10th with 25 points. They have scored 23 premiere league goals in 20 appearances and have an average of 1.1 goals per match. With 13.8 shots per match and a decent 50.1% ball possession they might just be able to find a goal in this encounter.

The last match between the two ended 3-1 in favor of Manchester City with goals from G. Jesus 24’, Riyad Mahrez 71’ and Raheem Sterling 84’ for City, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored (33’) for Everton. Manchester City dominated that game with a 63% ball possession and completed 619 passes over Everton’s 358. Although both sides had the same number of shots on target it was Manchester City who wanted the game more. Also, Manchester City have won their last 4 matches against Everton in all competitions. We predict an easy win by a two-goal margin or more for City.
