Manchester City vs Sheffield

Manchester City will take on Sheffield United later today in their 20th premiere league appearance of the season. City returns after a surprising defeat in a controversial match that saw Pep’s side finish the game with only 10 men. Goal keeper Ederson was sent off for a ‘professional’ foul on a Wolves player who was goal bound.

Pep will now be looking to forget this set back and pick up three points in less than 48 hours after losing twice to Wolves in the same season – 2-0 in the first leg and 3-2 in the second. City’s dream of cutting the gap and overtaking Leicester were dashed thanks to great performances from City’s new nemesis, Adama Traore. They have now lost twice in their last six matches; LWWLWD. Pep Guardiola will likely play a 4-3-3 against ‘The Blades’. Raheem Sterling who scored the two goals against Wolves will feature once more along with Sergio Aguero. The Argentine was sacrificed early on in the game after the red card to Goal keeper Ederson. The duo will look to stretch their goal tally for City – 11 for Sterling and 9 for Aguero.

Meanwhile, Sheffield United looks like a weaker side on paper but their form has been as good – if not better than City: DWWWLD. Their last game ended with a point thanks to a 27’ goal from Gerald Deulofeu. Now Nigel Pearson who will likely use a 3-5-2 formation will be looking at taking 3 points from Manchester City – a tough task considering City’s goal scoring prowess.

Despite have a low average ball possession of 45.9% this season, Sheffield has still been able to score an average of 1 goal in every match. ‘The Blades’ have a total of 23 goals in 19 premiere league appearances.

This is the first meeting in recent times between both sides as Sheffield returned to the premiere league in April this year. There is a 77% probability for a win by Manchester City and a 9% probability of a win for Sheffield United. It’s also notes worthy that The Blades remain unbeaten in all away league matches this season. Manchester City and Sheffield sit 3rd and 8th respectively on the premier league table.

Ederson is suspended in Friday’s 3-2 defeat away to Wolves so we will see Claudio Bravo in goal for Manchester City. Sheffield have no notable injury list so Nigel Pearson will be free to select his best IX.
