Manchester United vs Manchester City
This Sunday, Manchester United will go into their 29th Premier league appearance of the season against City rivals, Manchester City. United come off a hard fought 1-1 draw against Everton in their last Premiere league match. That was United’s second draw in their last six games; LLDWWD. They remain 5th place on the league table with 42 points acquired from 11W, 9D and 8L in 28 league appearances. The last time we saw the Red Devils it was just days ago in an FA Cup match against Derby County. They won 3-0 and Ole must have been very impressed with the results, more so with his new signing Odion Ighalo who got a brace in that game.
Manchester United will like to finish the week on a high note and will aim for another ‘W’ at the expense of Pep Guardiola’s City. According to Whoscored.com, Manchester United will play a 4-3-1-2 formation with Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial leading the attack. The duo have 15 goals split between them this season and they will be looking to stretch their tally against one of the best attacking sides in the Premier league on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Manchester City comes off a 1-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday (FA Cup). The Citizens have a game in hand so this will be their 28th league appearance for the season. The last time they played a league match was against Leicester City and it ended in a 1-0 victory for City. City has lost only once in their last six league games; WDWLWW. They are placed 2nd on the league table after 18W, 3D and 6L in 27 league appearance and remain the highest premier league scoring side with 68 goals. Guardiola will play his usual 4-3-3 formation with the familiar trio of Aguero, Mahrez and Raheem Sterling. Aguero who scored twice for the Citizens in their last two games has 16 league goals this season.
The last time both sides met for a Premier league match, it ended 1-2 – a victory for Manchester United. Marcus Rashford (23’) and Anthony Martial (29’) scored for United before City tried to stage a late comeback with an 85th minute goal by Nicolas Otamendi.
On injuries, Kevin De Bruyne’s fitness is improving but it remains uncertain if he will recover in time to play in this Sunday’s derby. There are similar doubts in United’s camp as Ole Gunnar confirmed that question marks remain over Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James’ availability.
A 1-2 victory for Manchester City is predicted at the end of this fixture.
